Chicago Bears touch down at Stansted Airport ahead of game against Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Touchdown! American football teams have landed at Stansted Airport ahead of a series of NFL clashes in the capital.
The London Games series brings together some of the top gridiron teams from the States for three exciting matches every year.
The airport has served as a gateway for many of the teams playing in the series since the first game at Wembley in 2007 when the New York Giants defeated the Miami Dolphins 13-10.
The first team to touch down this year was the New York Jets, who arrived at 7am on Friday (Oct 4) ahead of a highly anticipated clash with the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday (Oct 6) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It was a 23-17 loss for the Jets, who flew back to New York from Stansted on Sunday night.
The Chicago Bears touched down at Stansted on Tuesday morning (Oct 8) ahead of a game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (Oct 13) against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Bears have been regulars in the series, having played in London in 2011 and 2019.
All the flights are being operated by Virgin Atlantic using Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.
Nick Millar, Stansted’s operations director, said: “London Stansted’s location, coupled with its excellent facilities and hassle-free travel experience, makes it an ideal hub for teams participating in the NFL London Games. Our efficient infrastructure and dedicated staff ensure that all necessary arrangements are made to ensure a smooth arrival and departure process for the teams.”
On Sunday, October 20, the New England Patriots will play the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium to complete the series.
