They raised the cash through tickets, a raffle, collecting boxes and silk poppy sales at their Concert of Remembrance in November at All Saint’s Church, Stansted Road.

A spokesman said: “This was only possible through the hard work and generosity of a huge number of people with their time, energy and money. The choir is so grateful to all those who contributed in any way to this wonderful outcome for the Poppy Appeal.”

The cheque was handed over this month to the appeal’s vice-chairwoman Kathy Stanes and Denise Hudson, of the Royal British Legion, during a choir rehearsal for Amici Cantate’s next performance.

Together in Song will take place on Saturday, March 24, from 7pm at St Andrew’s Church, Hertford.

The audience can expect an evening of choral music spanning nearly 500 years, from Palestrina through spirituals and musical theatre to contemporary works by Lauridsen, Jenkins, Gjeilo and more.

This concert is raising money for Christian Aid, as part of the Churches Together Lent Events and the St Andrew’s Building Fund. Tickets cost £12 for adults, £6 for under-16s and £25 for a family ticket for two adults and two children, available from https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/amicicantate
