Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree: Festive sing-along for charity returns to bandstand in Sworder's Field
The festive sing-along, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, is back at Sworder's Field bandstand on Friday December 23 to raise money for Bishop's Stortford Food Bank and the Holy Trinity Winter Night Shelter.
The band of singers, who last year raised over £750 for the two charities thanks to generous donations from the public, hope as many people as possible from the town and surrounding villages will once again wrap up warm and head out to join in the fun, which starts at 5pm.
The event is organised by Bishop's Stortford residents Angela Gatland and Gaynor Purton. What started out as an idea for a few friends to get together to sing Christmas songs has blossomed into a community charity event with financial support from estate agent David Lee, council grants and assistance from Livewire Rock Academy.
Angela, a midwife at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, and Gaynor, who works for local financial adviser Desire Wealth Management, based at Start Hill, will be taking over the town park bandstand, with local musicians providing the backing music.
People are encouraged to take along sleigh bells to accompany the songs, donations for the collection buckets and torches. And if you want to wear a Santa hat - even better!
