Hub Church congregation ready to volunteer in Bishop's Stortford

Bishop's Stortford's mayor has teamed up with a church in the town to support the community.

The leaders and congregation at the Hub Church in Portland Road want Indie readers to suggest one-off projects they can help with by volunteering rather than long-term commitments.

Mayor Cllr Keith Warnell said: "I've put them in touch with the New Apton Centre, where they need some work done on tidying their garden, plus [youth and young adults pastor] Jim [Baxter] has volunteered some minibus driving to help them."

He has also connected the church to TUBS (Tidy Up Bishop's Stortford), which will be meeting as a group for the first time in 16 months on Saturday July 10, clearing the wooded area next to Waitrose at Northgate End from 10am.

Cllr Warnell has invited Hub Church worshippers to volunteer and support the town council's summer entertainment programme, including open-air movie screenings in Sworder's Field. Three family-friendly films will be shown on August 1.

The mayor added: "I hope through the Indie readership that other opportunities will be identified!"
