Model train and truck event to be held at St James the Great Church, Thorley
Visitors to Thorley’s church on Saturday are in for a chuffing good time – and they can also learn the ropes when it comes to bell ringing.
A model train and truck event takes place at St James the Great on Saturday (May 10) from 10am to 4pm.
There will be displays of Hornby 00 Gauge and vintage tinplate by members of Bishop’s Stortford Model Railway Group in the Emmaus Centre to the rear of the Barnabas Centre on Church Lane, Thorley.
Large-scale model trucks will also be exhibited along with two 16mm scale layouts, one using live steam engines, when possible, by the Essex and East Herts 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers.
There will be an opportunity to visit the church ringing room to see how the bells work and to have a go at ‘pulling’ a bell rope – and perhaps being suspended by a bell rope!
Entry is £8 for adults and £2 for children and OAPs. Refreshments will be available.
Money raised goes towards the maintenance of the church’s bell tower.
