The M11 was closed in both directions between Harlow and Bishop's Stortford on Monday afternoon (March 1) as a result of a collision.

The southbound stretch has since been reopened. Motorists heading north were advised to leave the motorway at junction 7 (Harlow/A414) and follow the diversion signs.

Emergency services and Highways England traffic officers were on the scene at 3.30pm and traffic was building up on the approach to junction 7 from the M25 and London.

Highways England advised drivers travelling north on the M11 to leave it at Harlow, take the westbound A414 to the A10, head north and then join the eastbound A120 to rejoin the motorway at junction 8.

Motorists ignoring the official diversion route caused congestion and delays on the A1184 north through Sawbridgeworth.
