Costa Coffee confirms Jackson Square Sainsbury’s café to replace Potter Street branch in Bishop’s Stortford town centre

Bishop’s Stortford’s town centre branch of Costa Coffee will shut on Friday May 30 – the day before a new outlet opens in Sainsbury’s Jackson Square store.

In 2022, the supermarket giant announced it was closing 200 of its own-brand cafés across the country, including the in-store eatery at its town centre branch.

In 2024, Costa Coffee announced a £3 million collaboration with Sainsbury’s to roll out new outlets.

A spokesperson told the Indie: “Our Costa Coffee store on Potter Street, Bishop’s Stortford, will be closing for trade on May 30. But don’t worry – our new store in Sainsbury’s, Jackson Square, will be opening on May 31.

“The same friendly team will be relocated to our new store, who look forward to continuing to serve the local community their favourite Costa coffee.”

Sainsbury’s also has more than 1,000 Costa Express machines in its stores and fuel stations, which in 2023 served 10 million cups of coffee.

There is also a Costa café at the Bishop’s Park Tesco supermarket.
