Crafty kids crochet a Christmas postbox topper for Much Hadham
Crafty Year 4 youngsters turned their hands to crochet to create a Christmas postbox topper for Much Hadham.
The 12 talented yarn weavers – James, Sophie, Emily, Eden, Theo, Violet, Bella, Penny, William, Evie, Emmeline and Zara – are all aged eight or nine and members of one of Aimee Nuttall’s classes at St Andrew’s C of E Primary School and Nursery in the village.
They have been studying crochet since September and the topper is their first big project.
Aimee said: “We’ve already received lots of praising comments from the community.”
She is an occupational therapist who taught herself to crochet in 2019.
“I haven't put my hook down since!” she said. “I instantly fell in love with the calm and happiness that crochet brought me.”
As well as crafting blankets, hats, clothes and teapot cosies, she has made a cervical dilation teaching tool.
Her classes began in 2022 when she volunteered to run two workshops for children during Much Hadham’s Busy Week.
“These were hugely popular and the children wanted to carry on learning,” she said. “So I started a school crochet club for Year 4 students, which continues to be one of the most popular after-school activities.
“While I have taught the children how to crochet, they have taught me lots about being a good teacher.
“I now teach a range of classes and hope to expand these in the future.”
