Mini driver arrested after cyclist in 70s dies at scene of collision near Saffron Walden




The cyclist who died at the scene of a collision with a car near Saffron Walden on Sunday (Oct 25) was a man in his 70s, police have revealed.

They have arrested the 20-year-old driver of the vehicle involved, a black Mini, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

On Tuesday (Oct 27), Essex Police renewed their appeal for witnesses and information.

The incident happened at around 3.40pm on Sunday in Wendens Road, a country lane between the villages of Wendens Ambo and Arkesden, west of the main B1383.

Essex Police said: "The driver of the car, a 20-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation.

"We need to speak to anyone who saw the incident or has any dashcam footage. In particular, we need to speak to anyone who saw a family group of cyclists in the lead-up to the collision."

The road was closed while police carried out their investigations and motorists were asked to avoid the area.

"We need anyone who saw what happened, has CCTV or dashcam footage, or has any other information to call us on 101, quoting incident 785 of 25 October, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111," said a police spokesman.
