Delivery rider threatened with knife by group of boys on bikes who slashed his backpack

A delivery rider in Bishop’s Stortford was threatened with a knife by five boys on bicycles, one of whom slashed the victim’s backpack.

The attempted robbery happened in Station Road on Wednesday evening (September 18).

Police were called at 8.24pm with reports that a rider for a delivery company in his 20s was cycling when he was approached by a group of male teenagers.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: “One demanded that the victim get off his bike, and the victim had his backpack slashed with a sharp object.

“The group then made off towards South Street and enquiries continue to trace them. No injuries were reported and nothing was stolen.”

Witnesses can contact Hertfordshire Constabulary online at herts.police.uk/report, speak via online web chat to an operator in the force communications room at herts.police.uk/contact or call non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference number 41/78058/24.

A man posted on social media app Next Door that the incident happened outside the railway station and involved “young boys on bicycles attempting to rob a Uber delivery rider for his electric bike, taking a stab at him with a knife and missed”.

Police have told the Indie that the victim was not a delivery rider for Uber.

The group were five teenagers, all on bikes. There are no further descriptions at this time.
