DAISY Award for Princess Alexandra Hospital midwife Ciaran Villa

A midwife nominated by a grateful new mum is the latest winner of the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust’s monthly DAISY Award.

The patient praised Ciaran Villa for supporting her and her partner during labour at the Harlow hospital’s maternity unit.

She said that he “advocated her wishes and needs; something she will be eternally grateful for”.

The DAISY programme enables patients, their families or colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference in their care.

Chief nurse Sharon McNally and deputy chief nurse Giuseppe Labriola surprised Ciaran at work with the award, gifts and treats.

Sharon said: “One of our trust values is to put the patient at the heart of all we do and the nomination for Ciaran clearly demonstrates that he not only puts the needs of his patients at the heart of all he does, but supports the birthing partners and wider family too.”
