Daisy Award for Princess Alexandra Hospital nurse Anna Mawbey, who helped dying cancer patient make special trip home for her son’s birthday
A compassionate nurse who helped a dying patient celebrate a special day is the latest winner of a Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust Daisy Award.
The programme enables patients, families and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care.
Anna Mawbey, Penn Ward’s manager at the Harlow hospital, was commended for the compassion and care shown not only to her patient last year but to their extended family too.
She went above and beyond to help the patient, who was on an end-of-life pathway with cancer, to make a special trip home to be with her son on his birthday.
Anna was surprised with her DAISY Award by Giuseppe Labriola, interim chief nurse, while at work on Penn Ward. She was presented with her certificate, a hand-carved Healer’s Touch sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, a copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls.
The award makes her eligible for professional development, education and wellness benefits.
Giuseppe said: “Congratulations to Anna on winning this DAISY Award, which is a testament to our trust values of putting the patient at the heart of all we do.
“I would also like to thank the family for taking the time to submit this nomination and getting Anna the recognition she rightly deserves.”
