Residents' concerns as new home building set to begin in Sawbridgeworth
News that a developer is due to start building homes off West Road in Sawbridgeworth has sparked concern among residents.
The SAWB2 scheme, which has been approved by East Herts Council, will see 200 homes built by Barratt Homes, which last week sent letters to residents living near the development.
The letter stated that “enabling works” have begun and full housebuilding will get under way in January. It also mentioned nearly £4m would be contributed to the local area.
People posting on Sawbridgeworth’s Facebook group were concerned about pressure on the area’s infrastructure. Some feared parking problems in the town and others said the development would spoil its character.
In response, district councillor Eric Buckmaster said that although the scheme was now a done deal, the town council had successfully lobbied the developer to ease some of the pressure on local facilities.
