Elsenham Flower Show Society: Displays dazzle despite dry summer
This year's Elsenham village flower show saw an impressive array of entries.
Despite the dry growing conditions, villagers produced wonderful displays of blooms, vegetables and fruit for the event staged at the Memorial Hall and in a marquee on the playing fields on Saturday August 20.
Elsenham Flower Show Society member Thuy Nottage said: "We were blessed with a lovely day for the show and it was really good to see everyone making the most of their time looking round and catching up with friends over a cuppa, cream teas or a home-made cake.
"An auction of produce preceded the prize-giving and we are very grateful to all who donated their produce for the auction, not to mention all those who gave of their time to help us in so many different ways."
Classes included flower arranging, baking, handicraft, photography and five children's categories.
Among the trophies awarded was a new one donated by Elsenham WI to commemorate its centenary last year – won by Gloria Eatson for her showstopper Queen's Platinum Jubilee cake.
The Richards Salver for the exhibitor gaining most points having never won a trophy went to Joanne Lushey. Overall winner was Alex Lucas, who received the Elsenham Parish Council Shield.
