Contractors from Elsenham clearing a scrapyard near the Essex coast discovered a human skeleton.

The workers from E Corr Plant Hire at Loppingdales, Gaunts End, initially feared the remains were those of a child.

However, specialist Essex Police officers who searched the site at Cockett Wick Lane, St Osyth, after the discovery last Thursday (April 25) believe the bones are those of an elderly man.

The detectives are treating the death as unexplained and are searching the Essex missing persons records while a forensic examination of the bones takes place.
