Thorn Grove incident: Firefighters help paramedics rescue poorly tradesman from scaffolding at building site

Emergency services were called to a building site at a house in Bishop’s Stortford on Wednesday morning (December 20) after a tradesman working up scaffolding was taken ill.

Paramedics were called to the property in Thorn Grove just before 9.50am “with reports of a medical emergency”.

The East of England Ambulance Service sent an ambulance and three vehicles from the Hazardous Area Response Team. “One patient, an adult male, was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital [in Harlow] for further care,” said a spokesman.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said that the brigade was called at 10.25am to help the ambulance service move a person who had experienced “a medical problem” while working on scaffolding at the site.

He said: “A fire engine from Bishop’s Stortford fire station and an aerial platform from Stevenage fire station attended, and firefighters worked with the ambulance service to safely move the casualty to ground level.”

The house is at the foot of Thorn Grove, by the junction with the main A1060 Hallingbury Road. A nearby resident told the Indie: “There’s no-one living in it as they are doing a lavish extension.”
