Essex Police appeal to public ahead of Storm Isha

Essex Police is appealing to people to call 999 only in an emergency as Storm Isha hits the UK.

Essex and Hertfordshire are not affected by the Met Office’s amber warnings of wind that cover most of the UK from 6pm on Sunday to 6am on Monday, but gales and heavy rain are expected throughout the night.

Roads could be affected and there could be damage to buildings from the strengthening winds.

Chief Supt Stuart Weaver, of Essex Police, said: “Last time we had an amber weather warning in Essex, our contact management centre received a large amount of calls.

“We have prepared for this, but we ask the public to only call 999 in an emergency and to consider which service your call requires.

“This consideration allows our officers to be free to attend emergencies, help vulnerable people and continue catching criminals.”
