Police seize Lamborghini of driver doing 140mph – twice the speed limit – on A120 at Takeley

Police seized a Lamborghini after clocking the driver doing 140mph on the A120 at Takeley – twice the speed limit.

When officers spoke to him, they noticed the sports car had illegally tinted front windows with less than 30% visibility.

Essex roads policing unit officers were conducting speed checks on the dual carriageway on Saturday (January 4) at the time.

They followed the driver and, thanks to motorists who were observing the 70mph speed limit and “a little bit of luck due to traffic build-up”, they caught up with him near Stansted Airport.

The vehicle was seized under anti-social driving legislation “where the manner of driving is inconsiderate, careless or dangerous and puts other road users at risk”.

The driver has been reported for speeding and for the dangerous condition of the car due to the low visibility.

Adam Pipe, head of Essex’s roads policing, said: “Speeding is totally unacceptable and speeds at this level are irresponsible – they could potentially result in a fatal collision.

“The higher the speed, the less time you have to react to the road conditions and other road users and there is a much shorter braking distance, all of which is covered in the Highway Code when you learn to drive.

“To ignore the speed limit is to your detriment. It’s illegal and we will take action against any driver who doesn’t observe the limit.”
