A Thai restaurant in Bishop's Stortford is set to expand.

Thitiya Sookphanich has asked East Herts Council for planning permission to add a single storey side extension to the northern end of the Baan Thitiya in London Road, formerly the Old Bulls Head pub.

The structure will add 33.85sq m (364 sq ft) additional restaurant space to the former coaching inn which was originally constructed in the late 17th century, but is not listed.

It was remodelled in the 18th and 19th centuries and modernised in the 1960s, but closed its doors as a pub in 2007, before reopening at the Far Eastern eatery.

At the rear of the property, the original course of the river Stort, now just a small tributary, runs before joining the navigation. The Environment Agency has already been consulted about the extension plan – which will be determined by the district – and has raised no objection.
