Signs saying four days of work by Cadent Gas at Market Square would start on January 20 were put up in error, says Hertfordshire County Council
Signs warning of four days of road works on Bishop’s Stortford’s main shopping street were put up in error, says Hertfordshire County Council (HCC).
The signs were installed on the pavement on both sides of the road at Market Square last Tuesday morning (January 7), stating work by Cadent Gas would start on January 20 and go on for four days. It sparked concerns over traffic disruption in the town centre.
But after the Indie queried the work – which did not appear on One Network, the online road works platform – a spokesperson for highways authority HCC responded six days later to say the signs had been put up by mistake.
“There aren’t any works planned for Market Square on these dates, and it appears that the sign was put up in error. We have told Cadent Gas to remove it,” the spokesperson said on Monday (Jan 13).
