Firefighters were sent to deal with an incident at a restaurant in Bishop's Stortford this evening (Monday June 10).

Both crews at the town's fire station were dispatched to Santos, the Portuguese cafe and coffee shop in Hockerill Street, after a 999 call was received at about 8.25pm.

According to a witness, staff reported sparks and smoke coming from kitchen electrics.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service's control room said that on arrival the crews found no sign of fire and carried out further investigations.

Hockerill Street remained open while firefighters investigated. Colleagues managed traffic around the incident, then 30 minutes later police arrived and took over.
