Fireworks aimed at doors of Thorley Park Sainsbury's while shoppers and children were inside

A rocket exploded just yards from the entrance to Thorley Park Sainsbury's while shoppers, including parents with children, were inside.

A gang of youths started causing mayhem at the Thorley Neighbourhood Centre by setting off fireworks at around 7.20pm on Hallowe'en night (Oct 31).

The group also targeted Sainsbury's petrol station, forcing it to close early.

A shopper who was in Sainsbury's at the time of the incident told the Indie: "They'd let off a few rockets and seemed like they were aimed at the doors. They then let off a few more further down towards the petrol garage.

"Some of the guys working in Sainsbury's ran out after them as the kids ran down to the park and up to the community hall by the Harvest Moon pub.

"No one was hurt, but [there were] a lot of shaken shoppers including children and other teens."

Rockets were fired at police, houses and cars as police responded to almost 50 incidents of Hallowe'en-related antisocial behaviour in Stortford in the three hours between 7pm and 10pm on Thursday evening.
