Five arrested after teenagers’ electric bike stolen in highway robbery at Spellbrook
Five men were arrested in connection with a robbery in which two teenagers had their electric bike stolen.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses and are particularly keen to trace a runner who went to assist the victim.
The robbery happened on the main A1184 London Road in Spellbrook on Wednesday 11 December at around 5.40pm.
Two teenagers were riding an electric bike – a black Talaria Sting with a green sprocket, pedals and grips – along the road when a red car stopped in front of them at the junction with Spellbrook Lane East.
One of the occupants got out, armed with a weapon, and threatened the victims to hand over the bike. The car and bike were then driven off towards Bishop’s Stortford. No one was injured during the incident.
Det Con Clare Halfpenny, from the East Herts local crime unit, said: “Five people were quickly arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on bail while enquiries continue.
“As part of our investigations, we’re keen to speak with anyone who saw what happened, including a male runner who came to check if the victim was okay.
“We’d also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a red vehicle parked at the junction with Spellbrook Lane East around the time stated, particularly anyone who may have captured dashcam footage. If you can help, please get in touch.”
