Five youths have been arrested following a homophobic attack on a Ryanair flight attendant from Bishop's Stortford.

Melania Geymonat, 28, and her American girlfriend Chris were left covered in blood after the attack on the top deck of a London night bus in the early hours of Thursday May 30.

It is alleged that Melania – a doctor and playwright from Uruguay currently working for the airline at Stansted Airport during a year's sabbatical – and her partner were harassed and then beaten by a gang of young men after they refused to kiss.

The five suspects, aged 15 to 18, have been questioned on suspicion of aggravated grievous bodily harm and robbery.

They have been released on bail to return to police stations on a date in July. The Metropolitan police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
