Food bank receives money for fresh produce handouts

Generous shoppers at Waitrose generated £511 for Stansted Food Bank, which received a cheque from the Bishop’s Stortford store on Monday (11 Nov).

As part of Waitrose's Community Matters scheme, customers can vote using their green tokens for one of three nominated charities each month.

A share of £1,000 is then awarded to each organisation - and Stansted Food Bank came out top for September.

"They did really well as they got over half the amount we give away," said Tracy Whitfield, Waitrose Community Matters Lead.

The money will go towards a new trial whereby fresh produce is handed out to families in the area.
