The Chase: Former Birchwood High School student Eden Chase wins £75,000 on TV quiz show
A young Bishop's Stortford man astounded TV viewers by winning £75,000 single-handedly on quiz show The Chase.
Eden Nash was the only one in his team of four who made it through to the final chase in the episode screened on ITV on Tuesday (August 31).
The former Birchwood High School student had told host and quizmaster Bradley Walsh at the start of the programme that if he won any money he might buy a car – "nothing too snazzy... something second-hand with four wheels, perhaps an Alfa Romeo".
When asked at the end what he would now do with his £75,000, an equally chuffed and astounded Eden replied: "Just look at it in my bank account!"
Eden, who lives off Oriole Way on the Bishop's Gate estate, introduced himself at the start of the episode – which was filmed before the coronavirus pandemic – as a 20-year-old trainee underwriter, although he was not employed at the time of filming.
He told Bradley that he enjoyed five-a-side football in his spare time, playing at his old school with his dad, who has played since 1981.
He won a modest £3,000 in his Cash Builder round, getting more questions wrong than right.
In the table round he plumped for the higher offer of £75,000 put to him by Chaser Darragh 'The Menace' Ennis and got only one question wrong to progress to the final chase.
There, he correctly answered 18 questions put to him in his two minutes. He then watched as Darragh managed to get only 15 of his own set of questions right. Crucially, of the seven the Chaser got wrong, Eden got four correct to "push back" his opponent and win by a margin of three.
When Bradley announced that he had won £75,000 at the age of 20, Eden's response was: "That's all right, innit?"
Bradley told Eden that it was the largest amount ever won by a contestant in a UK daytime quiz show.
