Free course for unpaid mental health carers in Bishop’s Stortford by Rethink Mental Illness and Carers in Hertfordshire
A free course in Bishop’s Stortford for unpaid carers around mental health is being offered by a leading charity provider of mental health services.
Rethink Mental Illness is on a mission to bring about meaningful change: to the health and social care system and to the way society views mental illness.
In partnership with Carers in Hertfordshire, it is offering a free six-week course at Bishop’s Stortford Baptist Centre, Twyford Road, every Monday morning from November 11 till December 16, 10am to 12pm.
The course aims to bring together carers to learn more about diagnosis, the mental health system and carers’ wellbeing.
It will also look to acknowledge and share their lived experiences so they can learn how to cope better.
Course facilitator and team leader Jonathan ‘Jo’ Clack, who has his own experience of being a carer, said: “I know how isolating and emotionally draining it can be trying to cope without support. I didn’t recognise myself as a carer for a long time and this had a severe impact on my own wellbeing.
“Stigma, misunderstanding and pressures on healthcare all mean that it’s as important as ever to have good information and strategies available. I never fail to learn new things from the people coming to these courses and I’ve been facilitating them for over ten years.”
