Free fitness session at Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre for people with Parkinson’s disease

A fitness coach who offers free sessions for people with Parkinson’s disease has been signed up by Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre in Bishop’s Stortford.

Around 60 East Herts residents registered as living with the condition can now benefit from a class on Thursday (May 30).

Medical experts say there is no cure for Parkinson’s, but bespoke exercise is known to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.

Fitness expert John Molyneux, who runs Herts-based training company MolyFit, said: “Working with Parkinson’s clients is a particular skill, and my goal is to help as many people as I can by showing them the most beneficial routines and programmes.”

Claire Uwins, leader of the volunteer Parkinson’s UK support group for East Herts, invited John after seeing his successful campaign with other groups on Parkinson’s Awareness Day in April.

She said: “We believe John’s approach will help nudge those who may be keen to get involved but lack the confidence to try out the positive exercise routines for themselves.”

With funding help from Parkinson’s UK, the programme for East Herts will also include working with the leisure centre’s trainers so they can follow up on John’s specialist work.
