Purple-haired Methodist steward is ready for a close shave to boost Bishop's Stortford church's fundraising appeal
A senior steward at Bishop’s Stortford Methodist Church is about to swap her purple hair for a shaved head.
Frieda Wilson, 63, is losing her locks on Saturday August 14, when she will be shorn by Ben Jack, owner of Marshall's Hair & Beauty in Bridge Street.
The stunt is to raise money for a major redevelopment of the Methodist church in South Street and make it fully accessible for the disabled so the congregation can share its facilities with the whole community.
The project is set to cost £780,000. The church has already generated more than £600,000 so that work can begin.
Frieda, who worked in commercial property management at Mullucks before retiring, said: “As chair of the fundraising committee, I thought I ought to do something. I have therefore pledged that if I can raise £750 then I will have my head shaved.”
