Frieda's close shave boosts building fund for Bishop's Stortford Methodist Church

A close shave helped Bishop's Stortford Methodist Church raise almost £2,000 for its £780,000 building programme.

Senior steward Frieda Wilson, 63, sacrificed her purple-blue locks on Saturday (August 14) with a haircut by Ben Jack, owner of Marshall's Hair and Beauty in Bridge Street.

She originally hoped to raise £750 but is now confident of meeting her stretched target.

The South Street church has already generated around £600,000 for the project to make its premises a community hub. Improvements include making the church and meeting rooms fully accessible and installing a Changing Places toilet for severely disabled adults.

Frieda, who is in charge of the fundraising campaign, has now launched a summer photograph challenge. The congregation has set 20 themes for snappers to interpret. Entry costs £3 and a range of prizes awaits the best submissions.

To find out more, email fundraising.bsmc@gmail.com with Summer Photo Challenge in the subject line. Entries must be completed by Sunday September 12.
