The funeral of popular hairdressing 'legend' Janaka 'Jan' Premadasa will be held at the end of June, with a wake afterwards at Bishop's Stortford Cricket Club.

Jan died aged 62 after a short battle with cancer, sparking an outpouring of grief and tributes from family and friends.

He was well known and respected in Bishop's Stortford having worked in salons in the area for decades. He worked at the former Crouch and Haskins in North Street in the early 1980s and opened Edward James salon in 1989. Latterly he worked at Lino Thomas in Stansted.

Born in Sri Lanka, Jan came to the UK when he was three and was said to be "hugely loved" by all who knew him.

His daughters Jemille, Camilla and Lydia described him as being "full of magic and spark". They expressed their gratitude for all of the Facebook posts and comments expressing people's love for their father, saying how it was a real comfort as they grieved.

Some of his friends have called for a memorial in Bishop's Stortford as a tribute to him.

Jan's funeral will be held at Parndon Wood Crematorium, Harlow, on Thursday June 30 at 3.30pm. The family are asking those attending to dress their best (black is not necessary).
