Squires of Stansted donates £395 raised from Christmas tree sales to 13 primary schools

Schools that have lost out on vital fundraising income this year have received a festive helping hand from a Stansted garden centre.

Squires of Stansted, based at Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers in Cambridge Road, has donated a total of £395 to 13 primaries in the area after customers nominated their chosen school to benefit from £5 pledged from every sale.

The business's owners, mother and daughter Sally and Lucy Lewis, came up with the idea as Sally was formerly a teacher.

"I wrote to all the schools asking if they'd like to take part as nobody's been able to do any fundraising this year. As a former teacher' I know all about the difficulties of fundraising" said Sally.

"It also helped raise awareness of our business and it was really nice that people shopped locally."

Stansted's Magna Carta Primary Academy came out on top with 13 trees purchased on its behalf, followed by Manuden Primary School and The Bishop's Stortford High School, whose head teacher, Dale Reeve, bought his tree from Squires.
