Man in court on GBH charge after woman in taxi suffers serious eye injury in Bishop's Stortford town centre attack
A man appeared in court on Friday (June 24) after a woman was seriously assaulted in Bishop's Stortford town centre.
The victim, who is in her 30s, was sitting in a taxi in Market Square at around 2am last Saturday (June 18) when she was punched in the face through an open window. She suffered a serious eye injury.
Ardit Billa, 28, of no fixed abode, has been charged with Section 20 grievous bodily harm. He appeared at St Albans Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody. He is next due to appear at St Albans Crown Court on Monday July 25.
Detective Inspector Chris Ross, of the East Herts local crime unit, said: "This was a shocking incident where a woman suffered potentially life-changing injuries.
"We will not tolerate this kind of violence and have conducted swift enquiries which have resulted in a man being charged.
"However, our investigation remains active and we are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen anything to assist our enquiries."
