GCSE results: Clean sweep for eight Saffron Walden County High School stars




Eight students at Saffron Walden County High School bagged ten or more GCSEs at top grade 9.

After a "robust and rigorous process" to ensure pupils' results reflected their performance, Olivia Harris, Joshua Lucas, Ciara Hughes, Florence Wolter, Harriet Altaparmakova, Rosie Chen, Henry Huxter and Mphatso Moto are celebrating a clean sweep.

Harriet, known as Hattie, said she was "absolutely ecstatic" and Olivia commented: "After all the uncertainty, I'm so relieved to get the results that match the hard work I've put in."

Classmate Henry added: "I'm exceptionally proud of my biology grade because of the progress I've made over the last year."

Other youngsters who received excellent grades include Pippa Higham, who combined her GCSE studies with training in preparation to begin her course at the prestigious Central School of Ballet in London. Pal Emily Mander was also delighted: "I'm just so happy! I'm buzzing."

They were joined at the Audley End Road secondary on Thursday morning (August 20) by "pretty chuffed" Tom Bonsor, Joe Gregory and Henry Phipps, who reflected on the end of a happy five years at the academy.

Head Polly Lankester said: "Year 11 2020 were an excellent cohort of students and it's been a pleasure to work with them across the last five years. They've shown such resilience and determination throughout this very difficult time and we're very proud of them all.

"We wish all our students well with the next stage of their education and we're delighted that so many of them want to stay on to complete their sixth-form studies with us."
