East Herts Community Lottery boosts district's good causes by £8,000
More than 60 groups – from sports clubs to social enterprises like the Welbeloved Club for lonely pensioners in Bishop's Stortford and Sawbridgeworth – are winners thanks to East Herts Community Lottery.
Through tickets bought by supporters, more than £8,000 has been raised by this district council initiative since it was launched at the start of the year.
Of the £1 ticket price, 50p goes straight to the charity chosen by the purchaser while another 10p is added to a community pot for local groups.
Cllr Suzanne Rutland-Barsby, east Herts Council's executive member for communities, said: "An impressive range of community and voluntary groups have signed up to the lottery which provides them with a steady stream of income, thanks to members and friends who buy tickets.
"It's a great way for everybody to support their favourite local group. All you have to do is buy a ticket, select your good cause at no extra cost to yourself and, as a bonus, you'll be in with a chance of winning a cash prize or free bonus tickets for yourself."
