Wright & Co Estate Agents and HardSoft Computers step in to sponsor subscription of The Times after funding cut for Sawbridgeworth library
The pages of a “cherished” newspaper will continue to rustle among the books at Sawbridgeworth Community Library after two local businesses stepped in with sponsorship.
The library in The Forebury, which is run and staffed by volunteers, received money from Wright & Co Estate Agents and HardSoft Computers for a year’s subscription for The Times.
A library spokesperson said: “With recent funding cuts affecting libraries across Hertfordshire, our budget for newspapers had been withdrawn.
“The Times in particular holds a cherished place in the hearts of our visitors. We will also be providing a warm space during the cold months, so we feel the timing could not have been better, highlighting their role as true local champions.
“Both businesses have been long-standing pillars in Sawbridgeworth. As the pages of The Times continue to rustle in our cosy reading corners, we invite all our visitors to partake in the warmth of a library that thrives on shared commitment and local benevolence.
“Sawbridgeworth Community Library extends a heartfelt thank you. This partnership showcases a vibrant symbiosis between enterprise and education, proving that with the help of caring community partners, the magic of community libraries can endure and flourish despite challenges.”
Janet Piercy, the library’s chairperson, said: “What Wright and Co and HardSoft Computers have done goes beyond a financial transaction; it’s a reaffirmation of community values.
“In a time when libraries are battling to stay afloat, their support is a vital reminder of the impact of local generosity.”
Indie readers can rest easy that their favourite local will still be available to enjoy as funds from library book sales will cover its weekly purchase – and we have donated an annual digital subscription for the library and for Bishop’s Stortford Library.
