Grange Paddocks: Pools filled as new Bishop's Stortford leisure centre gets ready to open

Get ready to make a splash! The main and learner swimming pools at the new Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre in Bishop's Stortford have been filled with water.

The next big visual change for East Herts Council's £20m project, due to open this autumn, will be installation of equipment for the 'water confidence zone'.

At the new centre, residents will be able to enjoy a 25m, eight-lane competition main pool, teaching pool and 'water confidence zone', state-of-the-art fitness suite, two exercise studios, self-contained football changing facilities and a café and seating area.

Dan Humphries, contract manager at Everyone Active, which runs the existing centre and will take charge of the new one, said: "It's fantastic to see the next stages of our new Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre coming together. We're confident this investment will provide high-quality sports and recreational services for the whole community.

"We are continuing to work hard with East Herts Council and partner Willmott Dixon to ensure that every aspect of the build is completed to the highest quality. We hope to confirm plans later in the month for the centre's opening."

Cllr Eric Buckmaster, EHC's executive member for wellbeing, said: "It's great to see the council's investment in leisure taking shape. The new centre will be a much welcome and well-used facility, enabling residents and visitors to really take their wellbeing into their own hands."

The new leisure centre, for which planning permission was granted in November 2019, has been built immediately to the south of the existing 1970s building. Building work by contractor Willmott Dixon Construction began at the end of March 2020.

Further changes include relocation of some pitches, landscaping and external seating areas, a play area and ultimately creation of an all-weather 3G pitch and tennis courts.
