Grove Cottage, the home of Mencap in Bishop's Stortford, will once again benefit from the Stansted 10k Fun Run and Walk.

Organisers will share proceeds from the Sunday June 9 event at Bentfield Green between the London Road organisation, Stansted's Huw Johnson Club, a social group for adults with learning disabilities, and Please Take Me there, a charity based in Duxford which provides free transport for seriously ill children, adults and their families, helping them to access healthcare they need.

Chairman Jim Collins said: "We have a target to raise £10,000 for local charities – we say £10k for 10k." Last year's event generated £7,350.

A Grove Cottage spokesman said: "We're thrilled that Grove Cottage will continue to be a beneficiary of the 2019 edition of the Stansted 10k Fun Run and Walk.

"Every penny raised will help Grove Cottage to continue to fund clubs and activities for people of all ages with learning disabilities and to provide respite for their families and carers. Without support from our local community, we wouldn't be able to provide these vital services."

Bishop's Stortford solicitors Tees Law is sponsoring the event along with Stansted Airport, Bloor Homes and Thremhall Park.

A spokesman for the Tanners Wharf legal eagles said: "As a local business, Tees is delighted to support the wonderful impact that the Stansted 10k provides to local charities and community spirit."

The Stansted 10k Fun Run and Walk also includes a raffle, sports massage, coffees, ice creams, face painting and more on Bentfield Green from 10am. There will be drinks at the Rose and Crown pub, plus a hog roast and barbecue, live music and bouncy castle from noon.

Runners can register online in advance via http://www.stansted10k.org.uk/ or on the day.

Prices for the 10k race are £12 in advance, £15 on the day (cash only) and £30 for a family of two adults and their children (£36 on the day, cash only).

Every runner will get a medal, there will be prizes for category winners and runners may run in a team; there is a prize for the fastest team under 16 years.

The fee for the 1k fun run or walk, which is open to all ages and abilities, is £3 in advance or on the day (cash only). There is no charge for adults chaperoning children. Every paying runner will receive a medal. A prize will be awarded to the first child under 12 to finish.

In both events, under-12s must be accompanied by an adult.
