Grove Cottage begins fundraising journey to turn new building dream into reality
Grove Cottage, the home of Bishop’s Stortford Mencap, is embarking on an ambitious project with a simple slogan - A better building for a brighter future. In the fifth of a series of articles for the Indie, it reflects on a ball, which set the project rolling…and the power of community.
Over the past four weeks, we have shared our build journey with all of you wonderful Indie readers, covering the historical context of Grove Cottage and the motivations behind needing new premises.
These include the demand for improved SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) provision and the necessity for a new building. We also honoured the wonderful Crabb family who left us an amazing legacy.
This week, we’re excited to share how we announced our plans to a smaller community audience and provide information on where you can find us to learn more.
On Saturday, May 11, we hosted our fundraising ball, unveiling our new building plans to an enthusiastic crowd.
Our guests were the first to see detailed floorplans and artist’s impressions of the future Grove Cottage, which promises to be a vital resource for our community for the next 60 years and beyond.
The evening was a testament to the power of community. Guests enjoyed heartfelt speeches from Grove Cottage member Syd and her mother, Marie, whose touching words about what the charity means to them left few dry eyes in the house.
Our Performing Arts group delivered two wonderful songs, and The Lackeys closed the night with a memorable performance.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who attended and made the night so special,” said treasurer Richard Smith.
“The evening was filled with remarkable speeches and performances, and we are incredibly thankful for the generous pledges towards our new building.
“These contributions have earned supporters a place on our donor wall of thanks in the new building, marking their commitment to our mission.”
Phil Morgan, HardSoft Computers managing director, was one of the guests. He said: “Reflecting on an incredible evening at the charity ball event in support of Grove Cottage, I am filled with immense pride and joy.
“For 15 years, I've witnessed the remarkable impact Grove Cottage has had on families and individuals with learning disabilities. It's a privilege to be part of such a compassionate community. Here's to many more years of making meaningful contributions and creating unforgettable memories!”
This event marked the official launch of Grove Cottage’s building plans to the community, signalling the beginning of our journey to raise the final funds needed to turn this dream into reality.
Your support is crucial. The new Grove Cottage will serve as a haven for individuals of all ages with learning disabilities and special needs, guaranteeing a nurturing environment for generations to come.
