A gym owner is to appear in court on Friday (November 6) charged with failing to comply with coronavirus legislation.

Police attended The Ripped Gym in Wych Elm, Harlow, on Thursday (November 5) – the first day of the new national Covid-19 lockdown – and found the gym open. They had been made aware of social media posts advertising that it would be remaining open.

After officers' attempts to engage with the owner failed, she was arrested and subsequently charged with failing to comply with a direction to close premises under the Coronavirus Act 2020.
