People’s Postcode Lottery: £30,000 win for Hatfield Heath woman who's just become a grandmother for the first time
A Hatfield Heath woman who works in Bishop's Stortford is celebrating a £30,000 win on the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Beverley Wadhams, 57, landed the windfall when CM22 7EN was announced as a winner on Thursday (March 4). One other person was playing with the winning postcode, bringing a total of £60,000 to the street.
Beverley, who works at puddings firm Gü, found out how much she had won on a video call with lottery ambassador Judie McCourt.
On seeing her cheque, Beverley said: “Lovely – thank you very, very much! I didn’t think that would ever happen, so I’m pleased, very pleased.”
She recently became a grandmother for the first time and plans to treat her family with the windfall. “My beautiful little granddaughter was born on December 12 and she needs lots of little bits. She’s my little, lucky charm!" said Beverley.
“I’d like to help my daughter Shannon too. I’m sure I can have a holiday as well. I love England, so somewhere in England.
“I’ll be doing a lot of smiling for a while first – it hasn’t really hit me yet.”
Beverley was pleased to learn she had won alongside one of her neighbours, who chose to remain anonymous, and said: “I’ve lived in Hatfield Heath on and off for around 35 years and it’s just a lovely place and the people are lovely too.”
Judie said: “It was fantastic to deliver some good news to Beverley and spread some joy in Hatfield Heath. A big congratulations to her and our other lucky winner there!”
People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play. A minimum of 32% of ticket sales goes directly to charities.
Today's draw was promoted on behalf of Postcode Animal Trust, which supports organisations including Dogs Trust, Guide Dogs and PDSA with regular grant funding.
