Herts police appeal for volunteers to swell force as special constables

Hertfordshire Constabulary is appealing for volunteers to join as special constables.

A special constable is a part-time volunteer with the same powers as regular police officers.

Special Superintendent Tim Wade said: "The special constabulary is a vital and valued asset. We have been, and continue to be, a particular strength to the front-line policing of our communities during this challenging time as we respond to Covid-19.

"As a special constable, you will receive first-class training and support, along with the uniform and equipment needed to carry out the role.

"Our specials come from a variety of backgrounds of all ages and you don't need to have a formal qualification to apply. It's a really exciting role and one which is certainly fulfilling.

"If you want to give back to the community and aren't afraid to challenge yourself, this may just be the role for you and we'd look forward to receiving your application."
