Developers are revealing their masterplans for the first Gilston Area neighbourhood this week.

Places for People is behind plans for 8,500 new homes in six villages, known as Gilston Park Estate.

Taylor Wimpey North Thames has submitted a separate, outline planning application for a seventh village of 1,500 homes on land it now owns.

Together they will make up the Gilston Garden Neighbourhood, which will form part of the Harlow and Gilston Garden Town, ultimately adding 24,000 new homes across four new neighbourhoods.

Last Tuesday (Nov 16), a meeting of East Herts Council's development management committee, which was expected to approve three Stort Valley bridge applications as part of a parallel process with Harlow District Council, was postponed because of last-minute legal concerns.

Enhancements and widening of the existing Eastwick (A414)/Fifth Avenue crossing over the Stort Valley, known as the Central Stort Crossing (CSC), will link Harlow to the new communities at Gilston.

There will also be a new vehicular, pedestrian and cycle link to the east of the existing crossing – the Eastern Stort Crossing (ESC). The third application is for listed building consent for works to Fiddlers' Brook Bridge.

The Eastwick junction is in East Herts while the majority of the bridge structures lie within the Harlow administrative area. Harlow councillors were due to look at the applications last Wednesday (Nov 17) but that meeting was also postponed.

At consultation events at Eastwick and Gilston village hall on Tuesday (Nov 23), from 1pm to 8pm, and at Our Lady of Fatima Church Hall in Howard Way, Harlow, on Saturday (Nov 27), 10am to 5.30pm, Places for People will present an emerging masterplan for the first neighbourhood as well as a draft masterplan for the strategic landscape, which has been developed with Taylor Wimpey.

The consultation will also be hosted online at gilstonparkestate.com. Development director Yuved Bheenick said: "We're delighted to be able to share our progress on the developing Village 1 and Strategic Landscape masterplans to the wider community and answer any questions that attendees may have.

"The comments we have collected from the local community throughout our consultation so far have been invaluable in shaping the initial proposals and any feedback we receive from these consultation events will be used to further shape our plans for the site.

"The consultation events in November will be the first of several and we hope people will join us at sessions as the plans take shape."
