Covid-19 vaccinations for 101,485 people in East Herts and Uttlesford

More than 62,000 people in East Herts and almost 39,000 in Uttlesford have received their first Covid-19 vaccinations.

Health bosses are urging those aged 50-plus, eligible carers and those in vulnerable groups to join them by booking an appointment online through the national booking system or by calling 119 now.

From Monday (March 29), fewer appointments will be available for first doses as a squeeze on supplies means the bulk of available doses in April will be used to fully protect people who are due their second jab.

The call to those eligible to book urgently comes as more than half a million people in Hertfordshire and west Essex – including 62,520 in East Herts and 38,965 in Uttlesford – have already come forward.

Dr Jane Halpin, chief executive of the Hertfordshire and West Essex Clinical Commissioning Groups, said: "NHS teams have done an amazing job to roll out the vaccine locally and ensure the smooth running of the programme.

"If you're aged 50 or older, I would urge you to book your NHS Covid jab now – it's quick, safe, effective and painless."
