Hertford and Stortford Lib Dems want Labour to deliver on NHS improvements
Hertford and Stortford’s Liberal Democrats want cross-party talks to tackle the country’s social care crisis.
Hertfordshire County Cllr Helen Campbell, the constituency spokeswoman, said urgent action was needed to take the pressure off the NHS and give older people the support they need.
She was responding to the new Labour Government’s first Budget in 14 years.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves unveiled £40 billion in tax rises to “wipe the slate clean and to put our public finances on a firm trajectory.”
Her Autumn Statement included an extra £25.7 billion over this year and next for the NHS.
According to Labour, the biggest increase in spending since 2010 includes funding to reduce waiting times by supporting the NHS to deliver an extra 40,000 elective appointments a week.
Cllr Campbell said: “Liberal Democrats will hold this Government’s feet to the fire on the promises they’ve made on the NHS, so people here in Hertford and Stortford can finally see a GP or NHS dentist when they need one.
“We’re campaigning for urgent, real improvements for our local health services. Now this Government needs to deliver, anything less will be a frustrating disappointment.
“People were fed up with years of broken promises from the Conservatives. This new Government can’t now kick the can down the road.”
