Bishop's Stortford's Herts and Essex High School has announced an "outstanding" set of A-level results for its Year 13 cohort – including 30 with a clean sweep of A* or A grades.

Cathy Tooze, executive head of the Warwick Road secondary, said: "Once again, another year group of Herts and Essex students has faced challenges, setbacks and uncertainty but have come through it all with indomitable spirit, resilience and maturity.

"We're delighted with the exceptional results they've achieved, especially in the light of all this. We hope they're as thrilled as we are.

"These results are a combination of two years of terrific hard work, dedication and energy from students and staff alike. This commitment is not only on an academic level but also, and just as importantly, on a pastoral level too.

"These past two years have not been plain sailing, but the combined effort and exceptional teamwork from the whole school community – staff, students, parents and governors – means that our Year 13 students leave Herts and Essex as well-rounded, superbly-educated young people destined for the best universities and ready to embrace their new opportunities. I'm grateful to everyone who has had a part to play in this."

Deputy head Caroline Lewis, director of the sixth form, added: "We're extremely proud of our students for their fortitude, stamina and determination. They've excelled under strange and unfamiliar circumstances. I'm very pleased for them and congratulate each one.

They leave us with the confidence of knowing they can overcome unexpected obstacles and achieve whatever they aim for."
