Herts and Essex High School GCSE results: 35% of entries achieve top grade 9




Herts and Essex High School’s GCSE students of 2024 achieved a greater proportion of the top grades 9 and 8 than ever before, according to results released on Thursday (August 22).

More than half of the Year 11 cohort’s entries resulted in at least grade 7, 35% achieved the top grade 9 and 15% of students achieved grade 7 or above in all of their exams.

They were led by Poppy Tweedale, who scored grade 9s in all 10 of her subjects, Anna Ruediger (8 grade 9s and 3 grade 8s), Evelyn O’Flaherty (8x9s, 2x8s), Lara Walker (8x9s, 1x8, 1x7) and Meadow Nobrega (8x9s, 2x7s).

Executive headteacher Cathy Tooze said: “Our Year 11 students have worked really hard and these excellent results reflect this. We are particularly thrilled by those students who gained top grades across the board; such outcomes are exceptional.

“But for all students, these results show that the combination of the commitment of students, dedicated teaching and the support of parents or carers is paramount to success.

“My thanks go to everyone who played a part in this. Such results are a great foundation on which to start post-16 studies and we look forward to working with many of them at Herts & Essex’s outstanding sixth form.”

Zoe Bradford, assistant headteacher: upper school, praised the year group’s hard work and determination, and added: “I have enjoyed watching them flourish not just academically, but also personally, in confidence, maturity and independence.
