Four Herts and Essex High School girls with an appetite for numbers triumphed in the county heat of the Maths Feast.

Year 10s Sascha Roy, Freya Corbishley, Leah Fogarty and Jessica Casey were competing against 20 other schools.

Ian Corner, a maths teacher at the secondary in Warwick Road, Bishop’s Stortford, who accompanied them, said: “There were four gruelling rounds of mathematics in which the girls worked extremely well together, displaying some excellent teamwork and problem-solving skills.

“They came top in all three of the first four rounds and continued to score highly in the final round, ensuring their overall victory in the heat.

“This is an unprecedented first win for Herts and Essex and we’re delighted with the result. The four girls should be incredibly proud of themselves and it bodes significantly well for future prospects for the sixth form.”
