National Teaching Awards: Mary Compton, Herts and Essex High School assistant head for STEM, short-listed for Secondary School Teacher of the Year
A long-serving member of staff at Herts and Essex High School has been short-listed in this year’s Pearson National Teaching Awards.
Mary Compton, who is assistant headteacher for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), is in the running for the title of Secondary School Teacher of the Year.
Mrs Compton has taught at the Warwick Road secondary for about 30 years.
A series of assessments and judging will take place before the Silver Winners, Bronze Winners and certificate winners are announced on June 18 to coincide with National Thank a Teacher Day.
The Gold Winners will be announced on BBC TV’s The One Show in late November, on the eve of the awards ceremony at The Brewery, London.
A spokeswoman for the school said: “We wish Mary the best of luck for judging. Whether she ends up as the Teacher of the Year or not, we all know she’s amazing; a true inspiration both to students and colleagues.”
