Herts county councillor Miriam Swainston’s grants boost Bishop’s Stortford Youth Project and Citizens Advice East Herts
Bishop’s Stortford Youth Project and Citizens Advice East Herts have been boosted by grants from one of the town’s Hertfordshire county councillors.
Cllr Miriam Swainston, the Liberal Democrat member for the Bishop’s Stortford West division, gave £500 to each of the charities from her £5,000 locality budget.
Each of the council’s 78 members receives the sum annually to distribute to projects that support a cleaner, greener environment; healthy and fulfilling lives; sustainable, responsible growth in the county; and excellent council services for all.
Bishop’s Stortford Youth Project will use the grant to buy a new games console for its Thirst Youth Café in South Street.
Cllr Swainston said: “I believe it is incredibly important to provide young people with safe places to socialise and have fun. I hope this provides a lot of pleasure.”
Her grant to Citizens Advice East Herts will help with the recruitment and training of new volunteer advisers.
The Lib Dem said: “Citizens Advice provides invaluable support for people in difficulty in Bishop's Stortford. Against a backdrop of falling grants and increasing need, I am delighted to be able to support their work.”
